One doesn't need all these things if one has VideoLAN client. It plays most videos without a codec. It also doesn't try to load entire movies into memory before beginning to play them (a la WMP) and can play damaged or poorly encoded videos without crashing (unlike WMP)

what programs you guys use when watching videos...? this include watching video cd (*.dat files)...? anything better than windows media player...?
