Index.dat files detection/deletion failure

Starting from 1.39.502 version, CCleaner still doesn't detect/delete

my index.dat files, as i've reported in some previous posts

 

Maybe this is due to some "not default" config of my Win XP

(i like to keep all my Temporary Internet Files in a separate partition

of my HD), but can't realize why some other cleaning applications i've tried

can still detect, read and delete my index.dat files with no problems.

I see a similar problem. CGCleaner V1.41.544 fails to clean index.bat located at

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

 

It deletes other files there, just not the index.dat file.

This used to work, I'm not sure when it stopped. Interestingly enough, you can

see the index.bat file contents using superwinspy 3.02 but you cannot see the

file at all under Windows Explorer.

 

Am running XP SP2fully patched and IE 7.

 

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

OK I feel like an idiot here. Ignore my reported issue.

The index.bat file is cleaned/removed upon next reboot as noted in another thread elsewhere in this forum.

I guess somewhere along the line I missed that fact.

The normal behavior is that index.dat files appears as "marked for deletion" in CCleaner logs.

Ths doesn't happens in my case

This really will drive us crazy (i mean both, me and CCleaner )

 

Using Windows Clean Disk feature

(right click Drive > Properties > Clean Disk > Temporary Internet Files > View files) i can

see an index.dat file (size 944Kb) saved in this path: G:\Cache\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5.

 

Using Windows File Search it doesn't find this file at all

It find only another index.dat file (size 32Kb) saved in the Cookies folder.

 

Of course "hide system and hidden files" feature is disabled.

To verify it actually exists try opening it in notepad:

Open notepad

Click File / Open

Type G:\Cache\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat into the filename box see what happens.

It probably wont open anything humanly readable.

In this way i get an "access denied" message trying to browse "Temporary Internet Files".

Edit: Sorry, my mistake. Typing the whole path it works, i can open that index.dat file.

Indeed most of the content is unreadable, but i can clearly read many visited website's URLs.

 

As showed in this screenshot, CCleaner can correctly find and clean all the temp internet crap,

doesn't matter it is located in a not-default position. All, but the index.dat file
