tamk
Ain't that cool how you just shut down the issue ! I always thought that a forum allowed the thread starter to decide when it was closed . . . I do not see why a registry cleaning action should need 2 separate software applications. If CC needs a fix then update it. And why is it not functioning properly to start with ? Must one BUY this registry cleaning feature ? tamk.
Moderators hazelnut Posted June 25, 2007 Moderators Share Posted June 25, 2007 Tamk, I have answered your original question here and nowhere was it stated that the topic was ended. You would of course be offered help and advice until hopefully your problem was solved, however it would be helpful if you keep your posts in one thread please. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...amp;#entry74554 The suggestion of Dial-a-Fix that was made to you, is not because of a failing within CCleaner, but rather because of a problem that there may be with your permissions settings, as the error you describe has been found to be caused on most occasions by a users permissions issue. As I asked before, I take it you are using xp? Of course all parts of CCleaner are free Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
tamk
Yes, it's XP. SP2 Home Ed. And it's on administrator account naturally. What user's permissions issue you are on about I cannot imagine. If the 159 issues are fixed why do they remain there ? In the past Reg Mechanic has never eliminated all of the registry errors that it found. And that costs ?30 per year. So it would not be the biggest surprise in the world if a freeware like CC fared worse. Tamk.
Moderators hazelnut Posted June 25, 2007 Moderators Share Posted June 25, 2007 Have a read here tamk it may help explain permission problems. http://wiki.djlizard.net/Repair_permissions I suppose you could explain it in a way by saying that sometimes the operating sysytem gets a bit mixed up about which user has the right to do what, and resetting the defaults sometimes can help. Couldn't make much sense of all that. But lately I had to reinstall XP and everything else and CCleaner now seems to be fixing all the issues that it sees. The reinstall has sorted out other issues relating to use of certain packages (Adobe Reader, Nero, Media Player) that would only work on the administrator account. Mystified but happy. tamk.
