stumbled upon this web site which I found bewildering.
don't know what is more amazing; the fact someone wouldn't know they have XP, or hadn't heard it has reached its end of life.

They should re-word "safe and secure" because there's no such thing using any Windows OS.
I think it's a relative term
I had a customer's computer with XP yesterday, we're moving his machine to 7 to see if it'll run okay (it came with vista and he downgraded) but I did see the microsoft warning about his OS' approach to end of life
They should re-word "end of life" as well, because millions of XP computers with boot normally on the 9th. "End of support" would be a more wise selection of words.

Agreed.
How about calling it :-
No more disastrous system killing "Windows Updates"

Been lucky I guess, never really had that happen to me.
Quite a lot of machine that I have seen messed up due to Win Updates have been caused by the user closing down the machine before the updates have finished.
Hopefully some people get spooked by End of Life and decide to finally upgrade.
Windows XP is over 12 years old, I know people don't like change but eventually maintaining program compatibility for such old systems becomes a hassle (Firefox only officially supports XP SP3 at this point)
WINDOWS XP EXISTING UPDATES
We’ve talked to Microsoft and it has confirmed that all existing security patches and updates for Windows XP will still be available after support officially ends. This means that after the 8th April 2014, you’ll still be able to use Windows Update to download all existing security patches.
This is important, as if you re-install Windows XP, you should still apply all of the existing patches in order to make the base operating system as secure as it should be.
There is a worry that Microsoft will decide at some point to pull the updates from its website or make them harder to get. Don’t worry, as the best thing you can do when support ends is to make a custom XP disc with SP3 and all updates pre-applied.
This seems like something they should (edit) not have had to check on, as NT and 98 could still use win update site into the 2010s
After the final rather smallish update (at least there were no double-damned .NET Framework updates), and reboot this ole cockroach of an OS is still alive.
One day into the dark side, still xp working fine.
I shall run it 'till its little APIs catch fire.
(Apologies to winapp).
Stay tuned. Let ya know if it crashes.
