I think it's just supposed to be a pun.. like spectacles. And who doesn't like 3D glasses!?
In English spectacles is another word for glasses (that you wear to help you see better).
So that is why the word 'speccy' is used.
Also the word specifications can get shortened to specs, which is also another short word for spectacles/glasses
