Just an observation. :)

As I like to thin out XP as much as possible I brought up "Local Area Connection Properties" right clicked the first three entries,leaving only "TCIP/IP" ticked,and uninstalled the others.

Guess what - no workstation service is seen in the services guide and everything seems to be working fine.

This is a standalone pc and I don't advocate anyone doing this.

In fact I advise against deleting any part of XP unless you have a decent backup program such as ghost or true image.

I wouldn't worry about it, unless you need it installed.

Workstation Service is used to connect local computer to remote computers.

I like to thin it out as much as possible too.

And some weeks ago, I did the very same thing.

Now my 'netstat -a' output is much cleaner. Open ports gone, etc.

Best thing I did. :D

Not recommended for people who use "File and Printer sharing", but I can imagine not a lot of people do.

im on a network and another computer has file and printer sharing that i print off of and i access the network.

i suppose i couldnt use this then?

No, then I guess you shouldn't. Because if you do, I don't think you will be able to access the printer and shared files remotely on the other computer.
