Won't Clean Found Objects

After analyzing I get 24.04KB to be removed, but when I run the cleaner it says 0 bytes removed. This has been going on for about a month. It picks up plenty of other stuff and removes all but this. I went to the site and redownloaded the program, but it is still there. Any advice? Thanks - Cheryl Ann

Can you tell us what the items are. My guess would be that your account does not have full privileges to delete those objects, or that the objects are still in use, but I will not be able to confirm this until you let us know the files that are not being deleted.

Hi - Here is the file name

C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\IadHide5.dll

Two seconds on Google brings up many hits for iadhide.dll, including this.... http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/t1015471974

There is too much info in there to reproduce, so take a look and see if any of it applies to you. It appears to be part of Backweb, whatever that is, and uninstalling BW gets rid of it.

Backweb is an application that is used to keep Compaq, Logitec and HP product software updated automatically.

The files backweb-8876480.exe, IAdHide3.dll and tempiadhide3.dll are also part of BackWeb.

Backweb, suggest they only monitor keyboard / mouse activity, so they know when the computer is inactive, they claim they don't record key strokes. (source)

From the backweb developer: Compaq, HP, McAffee, F-Secure, Western Digital, Logitech, Kodak and IBM are some of BackWeb?s customers. Each of these vendors bundles a customized BackWeb client into their products that are then shipped to their end users. These companies use the BackWeb client to distribute drivers, software updates, patches and critical information from a secure server at their site directly to their users' hard-drives.

It is up to you if you want to install Backweb but the software for those manufacturers do not update very often.

Hi All - Thanks for all the info. I was using Avira viral program and removed it and installed AVG. It picked it up and removed it! Now it doesn't come up on my scans. Thanks for all the help - Cheryl Ann

BackWeb can make all the claims they want, and even though they're not considered adware/spyware in the traditional sense I still don't trust having that on a system. A thorough search of the disk and registry with something like RegSeeker using its search/find function can reveal where that crap is hiding.

In the past with a former camera software I used I had totally remade the setup file to exclude the BackWeb crap - that's how much I didn't and still don't trust it.
