WISH: Office - List of recend documents

Hello,

CCleander allows me to delete the Recent Documents in Windows.

Fantastic feature.

Unfortunately I see in Office (for Example in Powerpoint 2000) in the Menu "File" a list of recently opened documents.

So please add also an option to delete the list of Recent Documents in Office.

Of cause for all Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access to name just some of them) and also all Versions of Office (Office 2000, Office 2003, Office 2007 to name some office versions).

Greetings

OLLI

Hello,

would be nice if the programmers of CCleander would answer my question.

Is such a feature planed?

Greetings

OLLI

Olli_S,

Go to the CC main screen and click on ""Applications"" to open that pane. Did CC recognize that you're using e.g. MS Word, MS Office or MS Works. Then there should be a box called ""Office ....."" that can be ticked.

Did you tick that particular box ? Doing so makes CC remove a lot of MS Word/MS Office/MS Works/...... related information from both the harddisk and the registry.

This question was never answered because (as willy indicated) MS Office is already cleaned

Please Note, I don't know if all of these are correct, the last computer I have with Office 2000 on it only has word

So I do know that the correct detect is written and that the %appdata% entry does exist and that the Word Settings are correct.

Hello,

I see, Office 2000 is not in the list of supported versions.

It would be fantastic if it would be supported officially.

The INI entry above did NOT work.

I get an new entry called "*Office 2000" but an analysis reports no files to be removed (although they exist).

:-(

Greetings

OLLI

Olli_S,

When CC wipes one or more files, those files are always listed before wiping. But information to be wiped from the registry isn't listed at all. Nergal's info (see above) indicates that MS Office stores nearly all file info in the registry.

If Office still ""remembers"" those previous used files then I would suggest to customize that ""Winapp2.ini"" entry in such a way that it does remove Office 2000 related entries from the registry as well. Find the %appdata% folder for Office 2000 and see what's hiding over there. To see what folders there are you need a special explorer e.g. ExplorerXP. If you know how to use a registry editor you can search the registry for Office 2000 entries. Nergal has provided enough clues what to look for.

If you have managed to write such an entry and if it's different from Nergal's info, post it here on the forum. It certainly will help other Office 2000 users as well

Hello,

I looked into the registry to check if the desired keys are present.

Here are my results:

The following folders/entries are existing in my Registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\PowerPoint\Recent File List
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\Recent Files
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data|Settings
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Access\Settings

The following folders/entries are NOT existing in my Registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Recent Templates
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet|UseRWHlinkNavigation

When I create an Winapp2.ini and add the code mentioned below (beginning with [*Office 2000]) then I get the following results:

  • Excel 2000: it is working, no recent documents
  • Word 2000: it is not working, I see my recent documents
  • PowerPoint 2000: it is working, no recent documents
  • Access 2000: it is not working, I see my recent documents

Any other suggestions?

Why is Office 2000 not integrated by default in CCleander?

Greetings

OLLI

Office 2000 is already 10 (??) years old and that's why it's likely that it won't be incorporated in CC any more. You'll have to write your own ""Winapp2.ini"" entry.

How many boxes called ""Office ...... "" show up in ""Applications"" ? If e.g. a box called ""Office XP"" shows up as well then you should add some/all lines belonging to Office XP as well. Perhaps Office 2000 registry entries have a slightly different name when compared with Office 97 and Office XP. See the info provided by Nergal for suggestions what to look for. Look at the info from the other Office entries as well. You'll have to use your imagination and your braincells. I simply can't tell you what to do step by step.

Keep track which filenames you're using in Word, Access etc., for, say a week. Don't use CC for a week as well. Use the filename info to search the registry and/or your harddisk. That will also provide clues where that info is stored.

If office 97 is supported 2000 should be also.

for the word "not working" check that this is correct (as I said it is on my install of word 2000 but that may be from another app (outlook 2003 is on that machine too)

FileKey1=%appdata%\Microsoft\Office\Recent|*.*

It seems there is some bug here. It doesn't work for me either.

Although Office 2007 (in my case) is supported, recent documents lists remain after cleaning.

The list seems to be located at c:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Datos de programa\Microsoft\Office\Reciente\

That's for a Spanish Windows XP SP3.

My Microsoft Office 2007 version is: (12.0.6514.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6529.5000)

El pusher,

1. Is that ""......\reciente\"" folder empty ?

2. Of course, you should change ""Filekey...=..........\recent\"" to "".......\reciente\". If that folder is empty then (some) info from the registry isn't wiped. If you know how to use a registry editor then you can search the registry which entries are available. Compare that with the info from Nergal has provided. Use the suggestions I made above.

3. Perhaps you installed more MS Office applications besides e.g. MS Word ? Powerpoint, Access, Excel, ...... ?

Doesn't the CCleaner Language module do that already? (I don't know I actually am asking this question, I only use the english in Piriform programs)

Willy2:

No. That folder isn't empty. It contains two files: index.dat and Desktop.ini alongside links to recent opened documents in Word and other MS Office applications.

Yes, I have installed the whole MS Office package (right now, Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Infopath and Publisher).

I have downloaded the winapp2.ini but I am unable to find the key for MS Office 2007. Must I create it first?

Nergal,

The line ""FileKey1=%appdata%\Microsoft\Office\Recent|*.*"" specificly targets that folder called ""....\Recent"". So, e.g. the folder "".....\Reciente"" (spanish version) or ""......\Zuletzt verwendet"" (german version) won't be wiped at all.

On the other hand, when the user uses the CC ""Recent documents"" option, then one special system folder is wiped, independently of the language version of Windows. E.g. in the dutch Windows version on my computer that special system folder is called ""Onlangs geopend"" but nonetheless that folder is wiped by the CC option ""Recent documents"".

El Pusher,

That folder "".......\reciente"" is not wiped because it's not targeted. (See my response to Nergal, above). If you want that folder to be wiped then modify the Office 2007 info (post #4) and add it to ""Winapp2.ini"".

Ok.

It's now working, ALTHOUGH it has deleted everything inside the folder, including folder icon. Is there any way to put exceptions to deletion when |*.* is appended?

Thank you very much for your replies and help, by the way... B)

El Pusher,

In CC there're A LOT OF possibilities to finetune the wiping:

1. Add info to ""winapp2.ini"". You can also add e.g. "".....|*.lnk"" or "".....|*.ico"" wich would specificly target those types of files.

2. Add info to the ""Include"" and/or ""Exclude"" feature(s) (""Options"" in the CC main screen) in CC to include/exclude specific files.

And it's up to you to use one of these features.
