I loaded CCleaner Sunday night, ran the registry cleaner ( and made backup registry file) Last night the machine was shut off, and this morning the XP will not load , error code c0000218 registry won't load hive......
I'm trying to boot that machine from the cd, but so far not up to repair console....
I loaded this from advice of Technofile article in Sunday's Syracuse Post Standard, as best of class free registry cleaner.
Could be a coincidence, of course, but until I restore this thing, I'm from Kansas, in spite of my non du plume here........
I'm not that savvy a pc tech.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Mark
Here's what I believe might be going on.
A year ago, I had a corrupted registry on this machine.
Since I didn't know how to fix that, I bought a new hard drive, installed it as the master on that machine, slaved the drive with corrupted windows registry, rebuilt the machine for all 4 family users, and retrieved all the appropriate files, pictures, songs, emails etc for all.
It looks like the machine has lost it's instruction to boot the newer drive and has reverted to booting to the older, corrupted drive. The newer drive doesn't show up in the boot sequence, I believe I'm only seeing the older (h) drive, but the machine thinks it's (c:/)
Would it work to boot this to the disk that came with the new drive ? It's not an operating system disk, but I believe that it built the link to the new drive that was installed.
Anyone?
Thanks
Mark
The only thing I can get to on this machine is windows setup screen. It shows the SATA 0, and SATA 5 bays empty, and no hard drives attached at all.
Can I enter the hard drive data manually and get the machine to see the drives ?
Does anyone read this forum ?
It seems to me that Piriform has ^%$&*& me good
PLease anyone....
