Windows Update

Just yesterday, I went to run Windows Update on my laptop. I launched it using the preloaded link in the Start Menu and this is what I see:

I am using a Genuine copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. My laptop is an HP TouchSmart. What is the solution to fixing this odd problem?

Un-patch everything you patched (such as explorer.exe to have custom back/forward buttons)

Un-patch everything you patched (such as explorer.exe to have custom back/forward buttons)

Is there an easy way to do this? I am running Win7 Home Premium (x64)

I installed the custom theme (visual style) using CustoPack. I uninstalled it using the same program, which is supposed to undo all effects. That didn't work.

Install SP1 - it might fix it.

Before Vista was released my son tried to tempt me with a Vista-like theme on my XP.

I hated it and uninstalled - but it caused SFC and WFP grief due to incomplete restoration of original files.

Later SP3 became available.

Much later it was installed (I hate change).

Pleasant surprise, SFC and WFP were happy again.

I already have/had Service Pack 1 installed...

1. Open a elevated command prompt.

2. To Scan and Repair System Files
