My windows Shutdown and Startup sounds have ceased to function. They play successfully when accessing the control panel Sound feature, but do not work when they should. The registry entries are present and correct with no problem areas.
Does CC Cleaner affect sound files in any way?
Anyone with the same problem, but has found a solution, I would grateful for the info just to ease an aching tooth so to speak!

Have you checked in - control panel /sounds and audio/ sounds and checked to see if they are still selected.

MikeW Yes, I have, and all my sound preferences are enabled. I have even activated three system restore points to no avail. A mystery I guess!
Thank you for your input, if you think of anything else great!

Dear Hazelnut Well who'd a thought it. I have TweakUI and I never even considered it to be the cause.
Thank very much for the sharp tip.

I think you may have misread the link, it doesn't say TweakUI is the cause, -it can be the solution

Yes, you are right, but I must have been the cause in the first place by checking the 'beep' box!
Ah! well shan't do that again will I.
Anyhow, thanks for your help Hazel.

Ah! I see what you mean.
Glad it's all sorted now.
I know some people like the Windows sounds however it's the first thing I always disable after I've re-installed the OS.
