Windows Size/Location cache & Thumbnail slow loads.

I have tired all settings in ccleaner to clean my system up, as all of a sudden explorer loads the thumbnails up slowly (2-3secs for large icons in a full folder for example) The load up is slow the 1st time it loads into the system memory, as if I reopen the folder they are already loaded up, but after a while it loads up slow again.

So I was looking if anything has had this issue & tried clearing the Windows Size/Location cache? I don't wont to try it, as if it doesn't work I have to reset all my folders again.

I have also cleared the thumbnail cache many times, when regenerated, the same issue.

thank you

Could you say what operating system you are using.

Where are the folders, on a network drive?

How many items are we talking about in the folders?

Could your av be scanning them as they are opened?

you say you are 'clearing' the thumbnail cache, I take it you mean the thumbs.db file in each folder that contains pictures and by 'clearing' you mean deleting.

if so, then the first time you revisit those folders, it will take a bit of time to re-cache all those files that can be thumb-nailed.

if you re-visit those folders, without touching the thumbs.db file, then the speed should always stay constant (and quick).

personally, I exclude thumbs.db from CCleaner. Leave them alone, they aren't normally large in size and will simply get recreated by the system anyway.

If you're purposely deleting thumbail cache you can turn off thumbnail creation in Windows via Folder Options, that should stop slow folder loading speeds since Windows would stop making thumbs.db files.

Hi,

vista 32bit.

The folders are on my C: in my personal documents.

Ill try disable AV & see how it goes. but it only happens once in a while like when first bootup or after many hours of multitasking(probably because the previews are no longer in loaded in memory?

maybe my issue is the RAM (plenty & never maxed) HDD (6yrs old, but load times with apps & games are still pretty much the same since yrs ago. Maybe the gpu (gt220 is dying? yet games run same fps & performance.
