Windows Explorer

This may not be the appropriate forum for this question - but experts in cleaning Windows OS may know the answer. The question has also been posted on the Kaspersky forum.

Although only one instance of Windows Explorer is running in Vista (X64) task manager, two instances are detected by Kaspersky Internet Security.

I hope someone will shed some light on this for me. Thanks in advance.

some programs may differentiate between explorer.exe (Windows Shell) and explorer.exe (open explorer windows)

That's my only guess.

Process Explorer from Sysinternals will tell you more than Windows Explorer.

They have many other goodies such as ProcMon

Look and be horrified at all that is going on backstage ! !

P.S. Sysinternals also has a User forum at
