So, my computer is very broken; we can boot up another OS (Ubuntu) but we need our files; it's at the Windows "Can't startup screen", can Recuva recover my files?

if you can boot that PC with Ubuntu, can you then not browse to your Windows partition, find your files and copy them?
as to getting Windows repaired, what version is it?
