Hi all, i am having a problem where by i have wiped my browsing history with ccleaner (stupid).
However i did not realise that i had forgotten to save my firefox session. the session contained reseach i was doing. i have tried to use a cmd program by mozilla to retrieve history from index.dat files, however i failed to do so. i think i may have more success in trying use to system restore.
my problem is that windows presents no recent restore points. however, ccleaner - in the system restore point removal feature does. how can i use these restore points that are apparent to ccleaner but not to windows?
how can i restore my session?
Hi matthew, and welcome to Piriform.
I think there's a way to get your browsing history back, more or less.
There's a yet unresolved bug with Firefox and CCleaner, which leaves evidence of Browsing History in one location only.
In Firefox, go to "View\Sidebar\History", and then in the SideBar dropdown "View" menu, select "By Site".
You should then have a long list of "folder" type bookmarks. All the folders will be empty of hyperlinks apart from the ones not yet cleaned by CCleaner, but they still carry the address of the sites. These left behind empty folders are the bug.
It isn't the most informative view of history, but it might at least give you a reminder of where you have been and maybe not bookmarked.
Regarding the System Restore points, I don't use System Restore but I'm guessing if the restore points are not in Windows, the references in CCleaner are pointing to something no longer there.
Hope that may help, and of course you may get some other input.
Thankyou so very much DeneisD that actually solved it!
I totally ow you.
You're welcome matthew.
I'm betting you won't do that again. ![:)]()
