Why was CCleaner 6.18 removed from download?

Hi,

why was CCleaner 6.18 removed from download?

Thanks

Will try to find out for you (and others)

I downloaded & installed 6.18 on Nov. 15. Is there a problem that I should go back to 6.17? I have all the older versions SLIM files.

If you are not seeing a problem with v6.18 then I believe that you will be OK to continue using v6.18.

However there is an issue for some users who have updated to v6.18.

This problem will will not affect everybody with v6.18, it is a licence key issue that will only affect certain users. but that would be enough to withdraw the update until it has been fixed.

(Although TBH I'm not sure at this time if this is the problem that has caused v6.18 to be pulled, there may also be something else?)

The problem is obvious - if you are affected then you can't miss it.

I am affected by it myself, it's happened to me twice up to now on the same machine, and hours apart, I simply reactivated it both times and v6.18 Pro is still what I am running now. (I now also have the same issue with v6.18 on a second laptop. of course it is the same licence key so to be expected).

Entering your key and registered name will re-activate v6.18 as Pro - but the same thing may happen again, particularly following a Restart/Reboot.

If you are affected and do want to roll back to v6.17 then you can download an installer from here and double click the downloaded file to roll back:

https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

NOTE that if v6.18 is asking for your key now then you will still have to enter your key and registered name to re-activate v6.17 as Pro,</s>

EDIT - Although the builds page is currently showing v6.17 to download it is actually still downloading v6.18.

I would avoid it until a fix has been released, which we are told should be Monday or Tuesday.

If you have automatic updating enabled then it should update again once a fixed version is released.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm seeing no problem with the free version, so I'll leave 6.18 installed.

We have been told it was due to an installer issue and an updated version should be released at the beginning of next week.

Good to know it is only license issue. I was afraid of some computer breaking bug or malware.

Hi, I use the professional version of CCleaner, but it will not update to version 6.18.

With version 6.17 the updater says it is the latest version .... So there must be another error ?

No that is not an error, v6.18 has been withdrawn from release until the issue with it can be fixed.

So so at this time - v6.17 is the current official release.

The page says 6.17, but, the download is named 6.18.. ?? confused..

I can confirm that https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds is currently offering v6.18 of the Standard (ccsetup618.exe) and Slim (ccsetup618_slim.exe) installers . Other download locations like https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download are also offering the v6.18 Standard installer.

However, the official download page at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds is still offering v6.17 (ccsetup617.zip) of the Portable build, and the direct download URL for the Portable build at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download/portable is also offering ccsetup617.zip.

@BluGenes Ah I see, thanks for pointing that out.

I can confirm that regardless of what it says on the page it is still downloading a v6.18 installer.

it looks like someone has only done half a job.

I will flag it up to the staff.

@nukecad

Hi, any updates regarding this issue? Also I am a person who purchased a licence on Sunday and I still can't activate CCleaner Pro with my key. This server licence issue lasts more than written above.

The latest we have been told is that they are working on it and now looking to release a fix "towards the end of the week".

I guss it's a bigger job than they thought.

I don't know if it's relevant, but the buggy v6.18 installers that should have been pulled from https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds are currently hosted on bits.avcdn.net, which I assume is an Avast content distribution network. Aren't official builds of CCleaner normally hosted on download.ccleaner.com (e.g., like the Sunset build for Win XP/Vista on that builds page)?

It's also possible that Avast / Piriform has deliberately changed the server where the CCleaner Standard and Slim .exe installers are hosted. I can't be certain since I only download the CCleaner Portable build from that builds page, which is a currently a direct download from https://download.ccleaner.com/portable/ccsetup617.zip.
