Why does Recuva find multiple copies of the same file?

Hello all,

I am trying to figure out why, when I am recovering the data from my HDD does the program find multiple copies of the same file? Several files have been copied up to ten separate times causing my 100Gb of files to exceed 500Gb? Any ideas?

Which operating system you use, what type of files you are recovering and how exactly you are using Recuva.

This can be caused by edits, edit backups (auto or manual), defrags (auto or manual), prog installs etc. It's common to find multiple copies of files. If you're losing space by recovering multiple copies, well, be more selective in your recovery. Recuva just recovers what you tell it too.

I would recover it all and sort through it manually. You don't know exactly what you're getting back.
