Where are Edge cookies kept

Hi,

I've used CCleaner for years with great results. I've always used Chrome. Just got a new computer (Win 11) so I decided to try using Edge. One thing I've noticed is when I shut down and restart my computer, it seems that the cookies are lost. (ie: I have to log in to Facebook again.) I've looked on CCleaner under Options/Cookies to see if the cookies are there. They always were for Chrome. They aren't there so I am not sure where to look to keep the cookies so I don't have to verify each time.

Any ideas? Of course I'm assuming the problem is with CCleaner cleaning whatever is being put in the system.

Update: I just closed my browser. CCleaner, cleaned and my logins to my pages are gone. Definitely CCleaner.

Thanks all

Are you using Health Check or Custom Clean? (or both).

Note that not all 'current logins' are saved as cookies, some are saved in the browsers 'Session'.

(and with some browsers the cookies are saved in the Session anyway).

So if you clear the Session for a particular browser with Custom Clean then that will also log you out of websites.

If you only use Health Check, or just want to be sure on the cookies side, then currently the simplest way is to use Health Check to add the cookies to the 'Cookie Allowlist' you don't need to know where the individual cookies are stored.

Once set those 'Cookies to keep' apply to both Health Check and Custom Clean.

Clicking that gives you the below where you can qickly add all or just some of the websites in your bookmark for that browser, or the most frequent ones you visit, or just a particular website:

<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="png" data-fileid="19195" href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2024_07/image.png.a1824d8bb4e9411e4b221f54d3ed6529.png" rel=""><img alt="image.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="19195" data-ratio="26.20" data-unique="tdy4z4onc" width="1000" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2024_07/image.thumb.png.bdfc07368702ba0966c0c5009641d393.png"></a>

This is the 'Import Bookmarks' dialogue, the 'Add frequently chosen websites' one is similar.

Tip- ticking the box at the top (next to Bookmarks) will select them all at once.

Note that if you have set a non-standard screen resolution or magnification then you may not see the Cancel/Add to allowlist buttons at the bottom.

If that is the case then you will need to set your screen back to Standard/Recommended while using that dialogue and then put it back to your preference once you have set your cookies to keep.

Thank you. I'll look at this. I've been keeping cookies under Options/Cookies. That's where they were for Chrome. I'll look at this.

Well, when I go to health check and scan, there is nothing for cookies at all. I tried it before I started working today. Tried again after working all day. No cookies.

As CCleaner isn't finding any cookies to clean then I would check your browser settings, you probably have the browser itself set to clear all cookies on closing - so there's none left for CCleaner to find/clear.

eg. This is from Firefox, it's ticked so will clear cookies and website data each time Firefox is closed. Most browsers have a similar setting:

<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="19237" data-ratio="19.90" data-unique="qpsttg1l6" width="965" alt="image.png" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2024_07/image.png.26f3acdffca8b3626333fff7bb2faaff.png">

for testing, i logged in to "facebook.com" with the "edge" browser. then i opened "ccleaner" and went to ccleaner's options/cookies and the "www.facebook.com"-cookie(s) was there (ready to be moved to ccleaner's "cookies to keep").

A way to test would be to look at Options>Cookies 'Cookies on Computer' while the browser is still open.

And then close the browser and do it again to see if closing it has cleared the cookies.

So, I just did the same. Facebook. Went to the Edge browser settings and cookies. Facebook is there. Opened CCleaner.. Nada. WEIRD! I never had issues with Chrome.

Cookies in CCLeaner.png

Is facebook already in keep from chrome? Iirc a domain is listed once, no matter what browser they reside in. If you click on a cookie in the keep column, appears, under the other column, a thumbnail of what browser(s) it's from.

Edit1

For instance, the www.ccleaner.com cookie placed there by CCleaner program, i believe, is marked as internet explorer. I just wanted to say that because it's very funny to me.

Edit2

Off topic but cleaning that www.ccleaner.com cookie shrank my CCleaner size the next load. Comeon son.

Ok end off topic

I'm not sure what your question is. When I use Chrome all the cookies for all the sites I use show up on the left column. Once I move them to the keep column, I no longer have to deal with logging in. With Edge I've had problems. Facebook did finally show up so I'll keep trying. There are things I like about Edge but then again, things I like about Chrome as well. Trying to decide.

Thanks for the input.

My question was: is facebook already in the keep column from chrome.? If so, that's why you're not seeing edge's facebook cookies.

i think nergal solved the mystery, which is that the reason you are not seeing the "facebook.com" cookies in ccleaner's list of cookies is because they are already in ccleaner's list of cookies-to-keep.

and, so, if the "facebook.com" cookies are not being saved, you probably need to adjust the "edge" broswers settings, setting ithem to save the "facecook.com" cookies.
