When offered the upgrade to Windows 11 the damn thing won't just auto-upgrade will it because that would aggravate me? Does it need my consent before it will actually install?
I think so, but i wanted it so don't remember
Yes it will be offered if your machine is compatible but you have to click to download and install it.
Can you imagine the complaints MS would get if it just 'forced' itself as an automatic update on users who may not want it (yet) ?
Before download Windows 11 or upgrade to it do check your system requirements.

Of course, that's good advice. My laptop was barely compatible with the cutoff of an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 and it has TPM 2.0. I wouldn't of been offered it if my system wasn't compatible. On my mother's 2014 era Dell laptop with a 6th Gen Intel Core i7 I'll have to convince her to switch to a Linux distro when Win10 is kaput because that laptop is still very usable and a well built tank.
I doubt Win 10 will be going out of use for another 10 years or more.
Yes it is slated to become EOL in October 2025, but Win 7 and even XP are EOL and many still use them.
Because of the hardware requirements for Win 11, I suspect that Win 10 will be in use for even longer.
PS. I've got a Windows 98SE machine that I still use for CAD work, building/extension plans for friends mainly.
It's also useful to use it's printer now and again. Amazingly the 20 year old Adobe on it can still open modern PDFs to print them.
It doesn't go near the internet of course, it won't even connect since I pulled the dial up modem card.
