My daughter has recently purchased a new laptop. She has an older desktop (gateway)with windows XP, that she wants to give to her daughter & son. At this point she wants to see that the teens stay in sights that are child safe. With no ability to download illegal content such as porn, music or movies. Is there a way to do this in windows xp? Many friends online recommended that I should buy Internet mac spy and mac keylogger. But it seems only apply to mac computers, i don't know if it can also use on windows......Please do tell me if you have a solution to this… Thanks so much for your time
There is such software for windows XP. PC Tattletale ($50 or so) will work for Windows XP.
I strongly reccomend that in lieu of spying on your children, you have a talk with them as to why these things are illegal, because if they find out, they'll probably be very upset.
You could try a DNS service like OpenDNS. Even their classic free service offers lots of parental control -- and also protection against lots of other bad internet stuff. No compatibility problem at all with XP.
Winnie, long story short, other than doing the following:
- Open DNS
- Restricted user account
Etc, you don't really have much you can do. If you block Internet Explorer, they can use Firefox.
If you restrict the IE settings (saves it in the registry), a quick google search can reveal how to remove it, if not a utility for it.
Best is education, because most all other ways just have ways around them!
Winnie,
Option 1: use Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, there is Parental Control with Password protected for Profiles. After you enable all the things will be blocked. For more details: http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/kaspersky_internet_security
Option 2: [Not much use full but still] use only Internet Explorer browser Set the "Content Adviser" and set password protected.

Internet Explorer and children to me would equal an infected system in no time at all!

Yeah, what with all their boogers and germs.
