Warning message regarding Windows folder

Hi,

I have been a CCleaner user for many years now. Just recently I have received the following message when clicking on "Run Cleaner":

"Recent is a Windows system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted."

If I uncheck "Recent Documents" in the Windows Explorer section, the message is not displayed. If I press enter or the space bar while the message is displayed, CCleaner continues to clean the Recent Documents but not the folder.

I have two computers in my house with CCleaner installed and the settings are the same. The 2nd computer does not get the above message.

Does anyone have any ideas why this message would suddenly start to appear.

Attached is a Word doc with print screens.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

I am using XP Pro SP3. CCleaner Ver 2.33.1184

Net Hood is residing under C:\Documents and Settings\user, which is where it should be, I think.

"Recent" is a file created by Windows. It resides under the User's ID and is usually hidden. There are 3 users on the computer. The other two do not get the message when running CCleaner. There must be something prompting CCleaner to display that message. If I bypass the message by clicking on OK or simply pressing the space bar or the enter key, CCleaner continues to clean the Recent folder. A minor annoyance since I can't walk away from the computer until the message appears.

Anyone else have a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

That almost sounds like some permissions issue, but with a folder it sounds odd to have.

I've been away for awhile.

I thought the same thing about permissions. I changed the setting in Windows Explorer to view all hidden files and folders. Then I unchecked the Read Only box. It didn't help.

Then I realized that the Recent folder had sub-folders. Specifically My Videos, My Pictures and My Music plus a shortcut to a Desktop.ini file. When I tried to move them back to My Documents, I was prompted that they would overwrite some other files (all sample files provided by Windows OS). So I moved them to a new folder. I have no idea how they were moved.

Since those are created by Windows when you create a profile, they were probably the files CCleaner was referencing in the error message. I re-booted and ran CCleaner again.

No error message. Fixed.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
