Vista UAC

I am aware that this question has been posted several times here, but none of the "solutions" appear to work.

Every time I run CCleaner version 2.03.532 on Windows Vista Ultimate, a UAC dialog similar to this one appears, asking me whether I wish to grant the program permission to run:

(Of course, the dialog box in this case says "CCleaner" and "Piriform Ltd" instead of Lavasoft.)

This happens whether I run CCleaner from its shortcut, its program file, the Recycle Bin, or -- most annoyingly -- even if it runs automatically on startup.

Turning off UAC is not an option. Following the suggestions in previous forum postings, I have tried setting the CCleaner program file's Compatibility tab to "Run as Administrator" and to "Windows XP," neither of which seem to make any difference.

This is a major limitation of the software, particularly with the "autoclean at startup" option.

Any workaround?

Thank you.

Did you try right-clicking the desktop shortcut and choosing run as admin?

Yes. However, "Run as Administrator" always requires UAC confirmation, at least on my machines. (That's why it has a shield icon next to it.)

From Microsoft KB article 922708: "You cannot set UAC to automatically run a program as an administrator without the user being prompted."

Its how Vista security works....For too long MS has had poor security models like in XP and 2000. Just deal with it, or ask Mr G to explore a service CCleaner rather than a user mode app
