Videoplayer freeware

As per title I'm looking for a (very) good freeware to replace Windows Media Player on my system. For music I use with satisfaction Spider

Thanks

VCL or media player classic. VLC dosen't need any codec but MPC does(download k-lite mega codec pack which has MPC in it)

VLC

K-lite mega codec pack with MPC

Both will allow you to get rid of real and quicktime as well.

If you want a better audio player you might want to look at either

wxmusik

Foobar(this one is my fav but you have to customize it)

Winamp

I agree rridgely.

For video you should use VLC or Media Player Classic.

For music I would suggest musikCube or wxMusik.

i've heard that VLC is crap. VLC = ffmpeg with a gui. that's about it.

i've also heard that VLC has broken MPEG-2 support, broken H.264 support, and a lot of other broken stuff.

if you want ffmpeg done right, you use ffdshow or mplayer(mplayer's builds are better but mplayer doesn't have a GUI that i know of for windows). also ffdshow and Media Player Classic go great together. i'm using celtic_druid's latest builds and they are working great for me.

VLC has some ridiculously annoying/terrible behaviors. For example, I go to adjust the contrast level on most movies i play, and as I adjust the contrast in the extended gui, the video window goes gray for a few seconds. Another thing is if I jump ahead or go back the video gets all ghosty and may result in a unexpected shut down. Oh and let me not forget the most annoying thing of all...if I have the VLC window expanded and I open up the extended gui the window resizes! And if you expand it again and then close the gui, it reduces again!

Also my test with VLC was negative and I have disinstalled it almost immediately (I had lots of freezing among other things). Still to find the right one.... The hunt goes on!

my experience about VLC is actually quite good, the dvd playback is smooth and the quality is reasonable, but I've also tried it on a old computer (not that old, a p4 2.0G box), VLC performed poorly on that machine, so I suppose it is cpu intensive.

btw, I think the xp default wmplayer is not bad (at least not that bad:)

My experience with VLC is very good. Never had any problems at all with it. Works like a charm for me.

If it didnt work for you good before, then try the latest version, maybe that helps.

Else there is MPC (Media Player Classic) which is very good, I like it. :)
