Just installed the latest version 3.04 and right away I found a small problem. When I start up Windows (version 7 64 bit) and CCleaner has the option to start with windows, normally it would start up in the task tray but now it just opens up on desk top and stays there.
Is this a bug or feature or is it only my PC doing this?
I'm wondering if the "Minimize to system tray" box in "Options\Advanced" has become unchecked. It's unchecked by default so maybe the update has switched this setting.
I've never had CCleaner start with Windows, but I'm guessing that checkbox may affect whether it's in the system tray or on the desktop on startup.
I have tried to disable that but it did not do anything. I have checked the registry but I do not see anything obvious that would help. I guess I wait and see if anyone else had this problem. Since I posted this few days ago and nobody replied that they have the same problem I will asume it is on my end. I will explore and see.
Any other programs you have Atin such as object dock etc? Windows Classic view ?
Have you tried not having it open with windows and then opening it, minimize it to tray, does it behave as it should? etc, etc (I know you probably have but just asking )
Also when you say it just stays there on the desktop (when you have start with windows selected) do you mean it will not shut down?
The program closes automatically after completion but it will not minimize to system tray. This problem seems to exist only on my working PC. I have tried it on different PC's but it is fine there. Went back to version 3.03 and that is fine. I also uninstalled then removed all traces from registry that I could find but still the same. Since this problem seem to be only on this PC I am going to disable the CClean autostart and instead use TaskManager and manually load it that way where I have more controll and hopfully this will take care of it.
I'm no expert on the registry, but it may be a problem registry key.
This is based upon my XP, but maybe try using the "Save all settings to INI file" in "Options\Advanced" if you haven't already used or tried that, which should result in the registry key containing the settings being removed.
"Star\Run\Enter "regedit" (no quotes)\OK" (The path to the key is bottom left of the screenshot.)
When you change that setting back to not using an INI file the registry key is recreated.
Close down and reopen CCleaner each time you make the change, and it might kick start it into working again as it should. And "refresh" the reg editor window each time to see the change. If the registry key isn't removed when the INI file setting is selected then I would delete that key.
Bear in mind that I don't have Win7, so one of my illustrious associates on here will probably put me right if Win7 is different in any way, and as to whether there's another reg key containing this info.
Thanks Dennis. You were right in the first reply to me about the Minimize to Tray flag being reversed. This is only true if registry is used. With INI file the action of this flag is correct.
