Version 3.04.1389

Just installed the newest CC New version 3.04.1389. Someone said that this version does not work well with my Win7/64 Bit. I do notice that at the top of the CCleaner screen it does say 64-Bit.

#1- Does this version work well with Win7 and 64-Bit? I notice almost every time I run the Registry cleaner, there are several "Open With..." files. Is this going to continue happening? Will these "Open With..." files keep showing? I delete them each time but they keep showing when next run is done. This never happened with previous versions!

#2- Someone said that MS will keep replacing them after they are removed by CC. Is that true?

But, what I really want to know is if these files are going to continue showing?

#3- And, does CC work well with Win7? -

#4- And 64-Bit

Please advise and thank you for your help.

Alice

1) Yes.

The second point is because this version has a more agressive registry cleaner, just whitelist them

2) Yes, windows will recreate them

3) Yes

4) Yes

Thank you.

Your = "just whitelist them"

What does that mean please and how is it done.

Right click upon them and select "Add to Exclude list"

However with all the complaints the unused file extensions have been getting lately you're probably best to untick that cleaning part in the registry until a new CCleaner version addresses it.

Re: Your = "you're probably best to untick that cleaning part in the registry"

#1- How do I do that? What should be "un-ticked?"

#2- Is that what you did?

#3- You say that CC knows about this (open-with) issue?

Sorry for all the questions, but this is a bit confusing for us.

Alice

1) To untick just remove the checkmark from the registry entry you want to untick. It's best not to clean everything the the registry section comes up with (see my signature)

2) Most people are unchecking it for now yes

3) there's been a number of people complaining about the agressivness of that particular section of the registry cleaner. As the developers read all threads (though rarely make a comment) it is assumed that they have seen this "outrage" and will dial that section back down.

That Said I stand by my signature as the best practice for any registry cleaning EVER, thus it doesn't bother me that it's suddenly too argressive as I won't remove anything that is not known by me as something I SHOULD remove.

Hope that helped answer your last set of questions :)

We don't know what to "un-tick;" that's the problem for us. We keep getting the "Open With" file when we do the Registry cleaner. Does anyone know which one that is?

Untick 'Unused File Extensions' (2nd down) and see if that does the trick. I must say though, to counter a little of the 'outrage', that this option works perfectly for me so it isn't a universal malady.

Thank you all. Will now have to discuss with my friends and decide what we want to do.

(As I mentioned, this Registry issue on appears to be happening on my Win7/64-Bit computer and also on friend's Vista (32-Bit). WinXP compuyter seems to have no problem with the Registry issue.)
