Version V5.41.6446 works perfectly. Under version 42, ccleaner starts, then starts to perform a cleanup, gets 1/3 done, crashes, then reports crash to Windows. Uninstall, reboot, reinstall = same outcome. version 41 works perfectly, so I reinstalled it and it continued to work perfectly.
