Uninstall to Install

I have used CCleaner free version for years but then this week could not open it. Tried downloading then tried uninstalling to re-install. All no good so I am stuck. I want to uninstall it then install the latest. How?

Are you having a problem installing or is it simply not opening after the install?

The usual questions:

What Windows version are you on?

If it isn't Defender then what Antivirus are you using, and what version is it at?

One more, are you using an Administrator account or a Standard user?

If it's a problem installing then try using the 'Slim' installer which you can download from here (3rd one down): https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

PS. You don't need to uninstall first, just run the installer.

Thanks for your quick response - I am on my PC with Windows 10. I use Malwarebytes security as well as Defender. When I tried to download a new version it seemed to go to about 98% install then stopped. When I tried to uninstall, I got a list of data which was deleted then a list of data which said it could not load.

Just try using the Slim installer. (I've just run it here to update mine to v6.22).

Do the first run of CCleaner from the installer itself (that can sometimes help with Windows Standard User accounts):

Thanks. Will try that

No good I am afraid. When I click to install the little blue circle goes round and round and nothing happens. At the same time an uninstall which I started is still trying to uninstall but it lists a whole load of data (predominantly CCS and CCL files) which it says it cannot load, (presumably prior to uninstallation). I seem to have a conflict between my uninstall action and the new version you highlighted. Dont know where to go next?

Personally I would end those stuck tasks using Task Manager and/or "Restart" the computer.

Then try the install again

Ok. Turning off and restarting is a good plan. Thanks for your time.

No problem, I just happened to be here when you posted, I'll pop back later to see how you got on.
