Trying to Recover my data with Recuva

Can someone please help Me I am a newbe when it comes to this stuff:

Background:

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone that I transferred my micro SD Card

into from my previous smartphone. About a month ago I realized that some

of the pictures were corrupted and called verizon they told me to put

the sd card in the old phone and see if I could delete the corrupted

pictures. Did that, the card went back to working as I was used to it

working. I then had a friend download some music to it. That also

worked fine until verizon sent out the Jelly bean update. When the

phone turned off and then back on after the update, the phone gave me

an error message that said the SD card is damaged. I immediately took

it out of the phone and put it aside.

Current issue:

So yesterday I purchased a card reader, New micro SD card and came home and

downloaded Recuva. So far everything is great. All the files, I cared

about came up in the directory with little green circles next to them.

(All the music and my 5 sms back-ups) I then hit the recover icon at

the bottom of the screen and the data gathered. Then it never recovered

over to my c drive or to the flash drive (memory stick)that that I put

into one of the other ports. I keep getting 1 to 3 messages. The one I am

seeing the most is " The parameter is incorrect" the second one I am

seeing is that the memory is not ready for the data. The third one I am seeing is "the system cannot find the file specified". I am now at the point where allI care about are the 5 sms back ups. The music can be

reloaded later. files are called sms-"date backed up and a string of

numbers".xml

(first thing I did was to run the computer in CMD mode and run chkdsk :/r and then chkdsk :/f neither of these two could complete the run though the card. It crashed as unreadable after about 50% of the files were read. )

So question is do I need to buy recuva to actually recover my data or

am I doing something else wrong? Please help.

Hi, That program will not work for me because there are no pictures to be recovered. So here's what else I have tried so far tonight. I went back into the CMD mode of my computer and ran chkdsk d:/f this now produced a name of a file that is corrupted. Also says that it removed the file. I then ran chkdsk again with the exact same result. The file was not removed.

Running recuva I am getting more files recovered now and more green circles. But, when actually trying to recover the files I am still getting the message "The parameter is incorrect"

Most of the other software i have found is either for recovering pictures or deleted files not corrupted ones. This is the only software that appears to do what i need it to do for my issue. I think I may be in over my head and it may be time to pay a professional to move on from here. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Recuva also has an advanced mode that does a deep scan.

It takes more time, but it recovered files on a flash drive that normal mode wouldn't.

Have you went into the options & tried checking to do a deep scan & see if that helps?

I tend to be cautious using chkdsk. While it can most definitely fix problems & save your hide, religious use of it can cause problems.

I have done the deep scan the problem is not seeing the files it is getting them from the list in recuva to the c drive. Recova goes through the whole process of scanning fine but recovers 0 files to C drive. I am still getting the reason as "The parameter is incorrect" although it is making file folders all over my c drive they are empty

Edit: My brain must be on vacation. I mistakenly posted about PhotoRec instead of TestDisk previously. I corrected the link.

Sorry about the problem recovering with Recuva. I am not certain what more can be done at the moment. Perhaps someone else will chip in with suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is that for removable memory as well a hard drive?

I have only seen that sort of error message when I use the CMD.EXE command line and use the wrong arguments.

Recuva can be launched on the command line, as per

QUESTION :-

How are you launching Recuva ?

via normal desktop shortcut with no arguments, or with an argument.

I installed it from Piriform without making any changes to how it installed. It installed to my c drive and made a shortcut on my desk top. I opened it from there. All with default settings other than turning off the wizard and allowing me to run from advanced settings. I have no idea what arguments are. Or if I am running any. Sorry :-(

I run it from the advanced setting. Once the data is recovered from my SD card with all the green circles, i check the boxes for the green circles. Hit recover in the bottom box. It cycles though loading percentages all the way up to %100 complete but then out of 489 files, it shows 0 recovered. In the reason section it shows "the parameter is incorrect" .

It is making all sorts of folders on my "c" drive but, they are all empty.

Ok anxiously waiting for your reply Alan_B, and please be kind remeber all I usually do with my computer is search google, and create word documents. i am a complete novise. I have learned more in the last 72 hours than in all my time with computers.

I am now satisfied by your reply that you were not specifying an incorrect parameter and thus causing this error "the parameter is incorrect".

I am not able to help you further, but I am sure experts will arrive shortly.
