Top Antivirus Performers

Don't use an AV here but this is quite a good comparison of a few AVs.

You can select and compare any of the makes side by side and also be sure to check out the system slowdown percentages of each.

it is reliable. the test was done by av-test.org

On there site (www.av-comparatives.org) they have more programs listed.

I don't know how much merit I would put into what they say anyway.

I thought NOD32 was supposed to be much better than that? I tried KAV, but I had to use the recommended settings because

"scanning all files" was way to slow for me. In NOD32, all files are scanned and everything from "virus signatures" to

"potentially unwanted software" is checked, and I still can't tell it's running.

Were the anti-virus softwares tested with the default settings or the max settings?

It says they are used on the max settings.(on their website tests anyway)

Also Antivir got the best results out of the free ones and also better than most of the paid ones.

How much do these test matter? How correct are they?

I don't know, but I don't really agree with them from personal experience.

Wish they tested Avira Antivir; would be nice to see how it compares.

Also I wish they factor in the virus risk scale into the tests to better reflect the overall picture. Because the way the tests are handled right now means stopping an obscure, rare virus has the same importance of stopping a more common, vicious one.

This might also prevent vendors from pumping up their numbers with irrelevant definitions without actually increasing the effectiveness of the scanners.
