The workstation I am using is on a network where my employer allows access to the Internet through a proxy connection. This is set in Windows 10 and when I open the browser I am asked for a username and password. Other applications also detect that it is a proxy connection immediately, some require a username/password, others do not.
CCleaner displays a window “An unexpected error occurred during the software update process. Please try again later. Error code: 4”
Since CCleaner can check if there is an update and if so it updates, so it works with a proxy connection, I consider the reported problem a bug.
As you are working in a business your employer will have a Business Edition of CCleaner which entitles him to priority support. Perhaps get your employer to use this.
Your answer is not appropriate, as I use my personal laptop and connect through my employer’s Wi-Fi. If I change the Internet connection then it works, but I reported it because I consider it a bug in the application. Cleaner Software Updater is not working with a proxy connection.
It is not a bug - It is your employers IT department protecting the buisiness computer systems from your irresponsible actions.
That is why they give you a Proxy connection.
Proxy servers can filter and block malicious websites or content, protecting they business computers from infection.
I expect that you have not talked to your IT depertment about this?
If you did they would probably give you a warning not to do what you are attempting to do.
You should not be downloading/installing software (not even updates) using the internet connection at work.
Doing what you appear to be trying to do is usually a sackabable offence; check what you employment contract says about inapproriate internet use.
Are we having a personal discussion about my actions or are we discussing CCleaner? With all due respect, but it doesn’t seem like the right approach to me.
Let’s reformulate the report. At home, I have set my router to be a proxy blocking websites like YouTube, Facebook for my family. To access the Internet with their devices, family members use this connection based on a username and password. When they use CCleaner Free Edition to check if their installed software needs to be updated, they get the error mentioned above. At the same time, CCleaner accesses the connection without a username/password when updating.
As it is your personal actions that appear to be affecting how CCleaner works then yes discussing your actions is relevant.
Sorry but changing your story - twice now - when you get an answer that you don’t like does not give me any faith that your new story version is true.
I won’t be offering anything more.
