Taskbar & Ccleaner

Hope I'm in the right forum.

When I reboot after using Ccleaner I'm missing a number of item in the task bar such as " safely remove hardware" , O2 broadband assistant and Avast.

I can recover these by restoring defaults in settings but I'm curious to know why it happens.

Would be greatful for any advice,

Hi fullyfitted, and welcome to Piriform.

Do you have "Tray Notifications Cache" checked in "CCleaner\Windows\Advanced"?

This will clear the System Tray Icons if checked.

Hope I'm in the right forum.

Morning Dennis D and thanks for your response,

I've nothing at all ticked under Windows advanced,

Might try doing a file repair but I'm a novice and reluctant to fiddle,

thanks again

You don't say which Operating System you're on, so I'm assuming XP for now.

Have a read of this article, which may help:

http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-xp/fix-for-system-tray-icon-missing-in-windows-xp/

This is an older article, but the apparent cause and solution are the same.

http://www.tech-pro.net/howto_013.html

The two services mentioned in these articles, "SSDP Discovery Service" and the "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" are two services I've had disabled for longer than I can remember, so you're not entering unknown territory by disabling them. Up to you of course, and you can always enable them again if needed.

Whether this is different in other Operating Systems I don't know as I use XP, but I would guess the cause and solution would be pretty similar.

Hope that helps.

Evening,

Yes I'm using XP

Many thanks for the links, I'm going on holiday as of tonight so I'll try them on my return.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

You're welcome, have a good one. :)

Evening DennisD,

I followed the suggestion in one of your links, namely to show the hidden icons and to unlock the task bar, Problem cured. I've since relocked the task bar and every thing is still working O K. Seeems I blamed C Cleaner unfairly.

Apologies for the delay in responding but I've been away . Again many thanks for your help
