system restore checkpoint deletion

The three latest versions of CCleaner have been deleting all my system restore checkpoints even the last one! without me doing anything. This appears to be a bug. Can anyone help?

I notice that CCleaner is just not listing restore points. Because if i go to System Restore in System tools there are restore points available.

So i think the bug is that CCleaner is not listing Restore Points.

CCleaner installed version is 2.31.1151

I just went back to version 2.29.1111 but System Restore points are still not being listed.

I went back to that version because i had a friend that was still at that version try to list restore points and it did list them on her PC.

CC does not actually wipe System Restore Points (SRP). It only removes the references to one or more SRPs. See this thread:

When Windows XP senses that a drive is running out of storage space then it automatically starts to delete:

1. one or more SRPs,

2. the content of the internet cache.

3. ................

Windows XP also removes SRPs when the user has allowed Windows to use too little diskspace to store those SRPs.

Willy2, That's not the case here:

1. I have a 74gb drive with 56b free space.

2. My SRP disk space is set to max 12% (9087 MB).

3. System Restore program shows restore points going back to April 7th.

I have removed restore points maybe a month ago using CC earlier version. So something has to be wrong with how CC is gow getting the restore point references.

I just went back to version 2.29.1111 but System Restore points are still not being listed.

I went back to that version because i had a friend that was still at that version try to list restore points and it did list them on her PC.

If previously version 2.29.1111 was able to list the R.P.,

and now it has lost the capability,

that suggests that Windows is a little more broken now compared to how it was.

It may be worth unzipping the portable version in a separate folder and trying that.

This could avoid any problems that might arise from a CCleaner registry key that has become frozen.

GBD,

No, this is - IMO - not a bug ! Did you use the ""Wipe Free Space"" option in CC ? Then EVERY time you do that you can kiss all your System Restore Points goodbye !

That's why - IMO - the Piriform folks should adress the ""Wipe Free Space"" issue, as discussed in other threads on this forum, in the next version of CC.

See e.g. my last suggestion in this thread
