Hi everyone, I'm recently having some trouble with Svchost.exe.. It's using up all my memory and CPU. This all happened after I used Ccleaner.. My audio also doesn't work.
When it uses up all my CPU, i control - alt - delete , and look at the process tab, it's either using up or almost using up all my memory and CPU.. I keep trying to fix it, I disabled automatic updates, still doesn't fix it. Automatic updates stopped working. whenever I go to manually download the new updates off of microsoft's site, it says "connection reset" and it doesn't let me onto the automatic updates part of microsoft. if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.
Things I've tried -
system restoration - doesn't work
registry restoration - doesn't work
running malware bytes scan - doesn't work
running norton security suite scan - doesn't work
if anyone needs more information, just ask for it.
Hope that helps, but post back if you get nowhere.
Nope, I don't have that installed. All I really want to fix is the svchost.exe eating up all my memory and CPU. I can try to do what you suggested with a blank cd, but I don't have a flash drive. I can download anything exept that, or the automatic updates site on microsoft doesn't load for me..
Have you disabled The Security Centre and Windows Firewall, or is this part of the problem?
I read that disabling Automatic updates would stop the problem, but before I disabled it, it wouldn't work. I have my firewall disables because of my norton.
I've found something else which may help, and it's a fix involving replacing the "framedyn.dll" file from the "dllcache" folder on your computer:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
Have a read here, and in the instructions the writer refers to "C:\system32\dllcache". That's wrong, the correct path is as shown just above, and you can simply ammend that yourself.
Scroll down to "How to Fix Missing Framedyn.dll Error"
If you can follow those instructions it may fix things.
With you being on XP, there's also the option of running Dial-A-Fix if Windows Update still doesn't work, which according to the developer DjLizard, was made to fix Windows Update. It's a well respected and well used little gem, and I've used it myself to fix certain issues.

I think you'll need to replace the "framedyn.dll" file first, but you ran Dial-A-Fix correctly.
From my post above:

You're getting that message because the instructions have the above error in them.
When it says to insert "C:\system32\dllcache", amend that manually to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache", minus the quotation marks. Or just copy and paste it from this post, and again, no quotation marks.
It's late here in the UK, so I'll get back to this thread sometime tomorrow. So good luck for now.

Ahh, alright. I'll try that again. It's just so annoying because it keeps happening.
Does framedym.dll have something to do with svchost?
Edit: I followed the directions, I'm about to reboot my computer and re-run dial-a-fix.
Jayy, I didn't realise your thread in Spyware Hell was still active. My bad.
For some reason I thought it had been redirected out of that section of the forum.
So, if you've replaced that missing "framedyn.dll" file, ran Dial-A-Fix to repair a possibly faulty Windows Update, and are still having the issue, you'd best follow hazel's and Rorschach112's instructions to eliminate the possibility of malware.
I'll leave this thread alone, and we'll see how your Spyware Hell assistance turns out. We never have two separate threads running on the same problem, as it causes confusion and doesn't help.
Go back to Spyware Hell, and follow Rorschach112's latest instructions.
Apologies to hazel and Rorschach112 for missing that still active thread, and to you also of course Jayy.
