The error for me is that it does not reads it or it cannot find the broken NTFS drive. The message is that it could not determine which filesystem types two of the drives are.
Also it would be more fast because it can skip the BOOT sector and internal drives if it is an external drive.
Recuva can already recognise those filesystems (It wouldn’t be much good if it didn’t)
So I’m afraid that typing it in wouldn’t help it wouldn’t help.
And BTW it only scans the drives that you tell it to scan, if you have told it to scan an external drive then that is all that it will scan.
However Recuva is primarily for recovering accidentally deleted files on ‘good’ drives, not for fixing bad drives.
I believe that what that message is telling you is that the drive cannot be recognised because it has lost it’s filesystem format altogether. ie it has become RAW.
You clearly state yourself that the drives are “broken”.
Do you simply mean that they have become unreadable because they have lost their formatting?
Can Windows see then and give them a drive letter?
If they have no drive letter then you will need to reformat them so that windows can see them and so Recuva can then read and recover files from them.
Recuva can recover what were the ‘live’ files (ie. the non-deleted files) from a drive that has been reformatted after a crash.
