Sticks when emptying recycle bin

I'm using CCleaner v2.33.1184 on Vista.

Until recently everything has been working fine.

The problem I'm having is CCleaner get to 28% and sticks, the file it sticks on is an old rar file, the only way I can get it to run through is by unticking empty recycle bin.

I download alot of rar files so I am emptying the bin myself because CCleaner sticks.

Any help with this please?

what's wrong with emptying the bin yourself?

CCLeaner often has issues with large files in the recycle bin if I recall correctly

Hi Carcer, and welcome to the forum.

How big are the files you're having a problem with?

I download quite a few RAR files, and normally shift/delete them when I'm done with them, however I tried binning a few via the recycle bin with CCleaner and they went OK.

These were files of a couple of hundred mb, so not that big compared to some.

Thanks for the replies.

It's an old rar file it gets stuck on.

The rar file in question was deleted over 2 weeks ago and is no longer in the recycle bin, yet CCleaner gets stuck.

I can see the file name when it sticks.

Thats the problem.

Why would it stick on an old rar file that has been deleted from my system?

Carcer

If you run ccleaner in safe mode does it still stick on the rar file?

I have the same problem here.... CCleaner gets stuck on a already deleted rar-file (so recycle bin looks empty). But it only gets stuck with secure file deletion, so not with normal file deletion. Deletion goes to 29% and gets stuck.

I want to delete the files with secure file deletion, It's one of many reasons I use CCleaner.

As for running from safe mode thats something I will have to test tomorrow.

Still it worked previously nothing has changed in the past 12+ months I've been using CCleaner.

It suddenly stopped emptying my recycle bin and sticks on a rar file.

I will give the link you provided ago tomorrow

Thanks Hazelnut *waves*

Hazels link was gonna be my next suggestion as well, as it sounds like a corrupt file stuck in the Recycler.

No worries. It doesn't matter who fixes it as long as it's fixed. I was just reinforcing hazels suggestion and apologies if it sounded like sour grapes.

We all chip in to help each other on here.

Thunder rumbles, lightning cracks in the background.

I'm not joking.

I will try it out in the morning.

Thanks both of you *bows*

Dennis D, you have no need to apologise, you gave me a perfectly reasonable reply, the oops was my fault, posted and hit back one page, then forward one page, then back one page, If you get my gist?

Exactly Dennis, as long as it gets fixed in the end that's all we care about :)

Let us know how it goes Carcer, if no joy we'll try plan 25.

(Dennis I've forgotten, what is plan 25  )

You think I'm taking the mickey?

I actually had thunder and Lightning going on in the background, no joke, serious!

I'm in Sheffield, Check out the weather report Hazel!

Tried out the 2nd option on the link you provided, rebooted, I now have a shortcut recycle bin, same issue not a rar file this time its an ISO CCleaner is stuck on.

Thanks for the help.

1st Option on the link Hazel provided worked by using cmd prompt.

2nd Option on the link Hazel provided did not work.

CCleaner does not stick on any files in recycle bin now.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this issue

I guess plan 25 should be reserved for toilet mishaps, drunken mistakes and blasphemy only!

Carcer *waves*

Really glad to hear it's sorted now. Carcer :)

Thank goodness we won't have to use plan 25

(Obviously you didn't look under my avatar to see where I live... not too far from you, so I believe you as we had a torrential rainstorm around the same time!)

A "corrupted Recycle Bin" in the past what I've did is just right click on the hard disk where it's corrupt to create a blank New Text Document, delete it, then use Windows own built in Recycle Bin cleaner. Of course this doesn't mean you'll be able to secure delete the contents but it should sort out the Recycle Bin not behaving.

I'm just up the road from you in Co.Durham, and although no fireworks, we've had a monsoon coming down tonight. I was half expecting to see the Ark floating past.

I'm also happy you fixed it.

:)

EDIT: I was ready with Plan 25 by the way.

Plan 25 is a stroke of genius.

I cannot thank you rapscallions enough!

CCleaner is working, fair enough it was a corrupted recycle bin that was causing the problem and not CCleaner.

You pointed me in the right direction and solved it.

Thanks

This sort of service deserves some reward, The best I can offer is my thanks *bows*
