I hate to admit it, but I broke down and bought start 8 for my windows 8 machine.
I tried a bunch of the different windows 8 start menu replacements and this one was definitely the best. It loads just as fast as the old windows 7 menu and fits in perfect with the visuals of windows 8.

I don't lament this loss of the start menu, but this actually seems like a pretty neat addition. Something I may toy around with if I ever get bored.

Start8 has a lot more features than just bringing back the start menu. One of my favorites is the ability to have the windows key bring you back to the desktop when using metro apps.(I still find it hard to get out of the metro apps sometimes.) I also like that it lets me boot straight to the desktop after login.
I really tried to like the metro interface but those apps are useless to me on a desktop. I may still grab a touch screen laptop but I'm sticking with this on my desktops.
At least the price of it is very inexpensive, so there's at least a cheap way to "fix" Win8.

Not at the moment. But I have used it before, & it also includes skins to make it appear to be XP, Vista, 7, etc... Not a bad proggy.

Only on 7 at the moment. But they added support for 8 with the recent versions.
