Starting tomorrow SP1 for Win 7 will be installed by Windows Updates.
Win 7 without SP1 will not longer be supported after 9th April 2013.

Same here. It seems advisable to do so.
Shows how good W7 really is...only needs 1 SP. W8 is the new Vista/ME.

I like win 8 too
1. I think MS should abolish that thing call Service Packs all together. Since they have been using Automatic Updates, MS Service Packs became obsolete.
2. It confirms - IMO - that things aren't "too well" at Microsoft. They are getting aware that there's some REAL competition. They're becoming aware that they need to cut wasteful spending will they have a chance of surviving.
3. The question is also: "What took them so long to come to this conclusion/decision" ?

During the final months of Windows 8 we challenged ourselves to create the tools and processes to be able to deliver these “post-RTM” updates sooner than a service pack. By developing better test automation and test coverage tools we are happy to say that Windows 8 will be totally up to date for all customers starting at General Availability. If you are an MSDN or enterprise customer, these updates will be available for your Windows 8 PCs via Windows Update as of today (October 9), following our standard cadence for Windows Updates on the second Tuesday of each month at about 10:00am.
As we have always done, any updates will have a knowledge base (KB) article and documentation. Documentation for these updates are documented here, and the text is reproduced below. We will of course continue to issue and publish changes and enhancements from this point forward, just as we have done with Windows 7.
We think this new pace of delivering high quality updates to Windows will be a welcome enhancement for all of our customers.

I too think 8 is good
Precisely.
1. MS can't flatly say: "We need to fix A LOT OF bugs in Win 8". That was the signal MS gave when they issued a Service Pack for (the buggy) Vista very shortly after Vista was launched. They need to put a positive spin on the whole (negative) story.
2. Issueing CDs/DVDs is costing them lots of $$$.
3. This also is an acknowledgement - IMO - Win 8 was a (more than a) "bit buggy", especially when it came to the "Automatic Update" feature.
4. MS always can issue (and in the past have issued) "Cumulative Updates".
this was not the point of what I said, and this topic was already told once that Windows 8 bashing isn't the point of posting in here (at most, to be fair as this is what supports have done, the bashing should be a sentence fragment in whisper)
