A possible bug? Files deleted even though ccleaner.ini =False
1. Initial conditions :
Under Cleaner tab - Windows - Internet Explorer - "Recently Typed URLs" had been ticked for a long time, over several updates.
But when Analyze and then Clean selected, the contents of these 2 folders below were NOT deleted :-
>C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active\< and
>C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Last Active\<
(They appear to contain lists of URLs visited)
2. What I did :
i)Ticked the box for "Saved Passwords" (normally NOT selected) and Analyzed. This did not show any files. Restored tick box to NOT selected.
ii)Seeing thating "Recently Typed URLs" was already ticked, I deselected and Analyzed, which showed few files, as expected.
However, before cleaning, I thought better of it and ticked the box - to back to how it had been before I did anything.
iii)Analyzed and found all files from the above 2 folders listed - which surprised me, so did not Run Cleaner. I unticked the "Recently Typed URLs" and, as expected, at next Analyze, these files did not show in CCleaner display.
3. What happened next :
i)The next time Run Cleaner was used (both the above still unticked), both the >C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active\< and >C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Last Active\< folders were deleted.
ii)I had taken the precaution of copying these folders and contents elsewhere before doing anything, so I could restore them before trying anything further.
iii)I was able to repeat my efforts and show this happened each time by ticking, cleaning, unticking etc. in various sequences, and also unloading & reloading CCLeaner, but the same thing happened each time - with "Recently Typed URLs" NOT selected, these folders were deleted.
Surely this should not happen.
4. Further notes :
Looking at ccleaner.ini revealed 2 entries at end of list :-
(App)Saved Passwords=False
(App)Recently Typed URLs=False
So one would expect neither to be removed.
5 Back to normal :
I maintain a (semi-auto) back-up of settings with a copy of the configuration immediately before my actions as noted in 2. above.
That back-up ccleaner.ini did NOT have these 2 entries, but everything else was identical. There was no mention of either item, which seems important.
When I replaced the in-use ccleaner.ini with the back-up, and regenerated the 2 deleted folders, they were not then removed by CCleaner even though "Recently Typed URLs" WAS ticked.
This all seems odd to me, hope it is of use.
5 A further (minor) issue :
In the Options I include C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\*.* but these never show when Analyzed. However, after Running Cleaner, all the deleted Prefetch files are listed.
Surely these should show after Analyze - before cleaning?

Using CCleaner v3.16.1666 on WindowsXP home SP3 +updates (no issues, everything functioning perfectly), Internet Explorer 8 only (Firefox, Chrome etc. never installed) no toolbars and minimal add-ons.
As few programs installed as possible, with as few start-up services etc. running as possible. Microsoft Security Essentials and Ashampoo Free firewall.
AMD Athlon XP3000+ with 2.0G of RAM, adequately quick.
