Solid Drive

Defraggler notes that defragging my new solid drive may reduce its life.

Any comments?

Should I just defrag. my older internal and external backup drives. I currently have two internal back up drives, a western digital and maxtor external drives. Obviously, I do not want to loose date nor be out of work for weeks with a failure.

Thanks,

Defraggler speaks the truth.

SSD have limited write cycles which is why it's not advisable to perform intensive read /write actions.

Furthermore SSD have no moving parts unlike traditional drives so the effects of fragmented files between both technologies are not comparable.

As for external drives your speed is limited by the interface i.e USB controller that defragging really won't make much difference.
