Software Updater - Skype

Hi,

CCleaner Software Updater notifies me to update Skype program but I don’t have it on my computer. Why ?

Thanks,

Emil

Yes the Software Updater will pick up Skype because it is built in as a part of Windows.

That means that even if you try to uninstall Skype it cannot be completely removed/uninstalled from a Windows computer anymore.
(And the Software Updater see those remains that are left so tries to update it).

My own solution to that was to reinstall the skype that I had uninstalled and then simply ignore it, just like we ignore most of the other bloat that Windows installs as part of the system these days.
Then simply let CCleaner update it when it wants to.

Let’s face it Windows puts a lot of ‘standard’ apps on our machines that most of us will never use, 3D Builder, Game Bar, Mixed Reality Portal, etc, etc.

Skype is just another one of those ‘standard’ apps now, so even if you never use it I’d just leave it there and ignore it.

Hello wrong answer. Skype is not integrate to windows since many time. There is no trace of skype in Windows. No directory no register key. Nothing.
And ccleaner still say there need an update for software that it is not on the system.

Whilst Skype is deprecated, and you may no longer see signs of it, it is still there baked into the Windows system files.

However it has been pushed out of sight, and in Win 11 there is nowhere to launch the user interface (unless you go and get it from the MS store).

It will be a while before it is completely removed from Windows, possibly Windows 12?

Obviously if it wasn’t still there at all then the Software Updater wouldn’t be able to see it.

Maybe solution is to add to CCleaner option to ignore some programs ?

Yes indeed, It has already been requested and bumped up to the staff to add ‘Skip this version’ and ‘Ignore/Pause updates’ buttons to Software Updater, similar to the ones that are already in the Driver Updater.

We will have to wait and see if those buttons do get added in a future version update.
