Most of the time, but not always, the program does something before starting. It takes a long time and very often won't start at all. I just get the spinning ring.
Once I tried running the program from the directory and it re-installed. Another time I could see that something was examining all the files on the c: disc. The exe file checks clean from two anti-virus programs.
Does ccleaner run without the slow start if you use it in safe mode?
Sorry I oversimplified, 1 anti-virus and 1 spy-catcher
I've never tried safe mode for anything - what would be interesting to hear is if the program does anything at all before displaying the gui. If it doesn't then the problem is in vista which is really what i suspect
The Reason For the Safe Mode Query: It could be that one (or both) of the Anti-Malwares (or some other program/service) is slowing the load of CCleaner, safe mode loads windows with a minimal amout of software/services which may emliminate that issue. Please note we are not suggesting you always run ccleaner in safe mode, but seeing if this delay still occurs will allow us to know what direction to take with your case.
Please provide us with the names of your Anti-Malware propgrams as well.
Have you tried uninstalling and then re-installing it? Also when you open CCleaner open up Task Manager and look at what processes are using up your CPU and then memory usage of CCleaner. It could be that CCleaner isn't getting the memory it needs.
Thanks everyone - managed to see that the anti-virus program was checking - god knows what really - on running program. I exempted cclean from checking and no more delays.
