You just know you made a bad buy when...
Lower corner of screen has the words "Etch-a-sketch" on it.
In order to start it you need some jumper cables and a friend's car.
The slogan on the front reads: "Intel Pentium Inside: redefining mathematics".
The "quick reference" manual is 120 pages long.
Whenever you turn it on, all the dogs in your neighborhood start howling.
The screen often displays the message, "Ain't it break time yet?"
The manual contains only one sentence: "Good Luck!"
The only chip inside is a Dorito.
Haha, very nice. I could probably think of a few more, but I'm not that creative !

Ten ways for a nerd to impress his date
10. Flash the big wads of tens and twenties you created with your color laser printer and top-notch graphics program.
9. Spend an evening playing floppy disks backward, listening for the secret messages about Satan.
8. Invite her back to your place to show her the etchings on your Newton MessagePad.
7. Let the lady go first when you reach the virtual reality escalator.
6. Serenade her with your MIDI-compatible drum pads.
5. Have your dinner illuminated by the soft glow of an active-matrix LCD panel.
4. If you're getting serious, consider a set of "his 'n' her" system unit keys.
3. Drive her crazy by murmuring tender love words with the help of a French-speaking voice synthesizer.
2. Never type on your date's laptop computer without permission, particularly if the system is on her lap.
1. When things get tough, simply ask yourself, "What would Bill Gates do in a situation like this?"
I like 2 and 6 best

You just know you made a bad buy when...
I actually bought one once that would display "Windows cannot find the operating system" every second or third time you restarted. Took it back, the store guy didn't want to take it. When it did work, he would point at it and say "See, it's working OK." After a calm and rational discussion, he took it back.
Never did find out what was wrong...bad memory, am repressing it.
