I have recently used Recuva to recover thousands of files from one partition in my external HDD which was not showing any folders/files.
Thanks to Recuva, large number of files have been recovered.
Unfortunately, the listing of detections came only with names of files but not the original folders in which they were categorised.
So now I have recovered the files but now struggling to re-create folders (no longer remember names of folders in which various files were categorised and placed).
Is there some way also to recover the folder names or get a list based on original folder names?
Secondly, there are a large number of files which are shown as "unrecoverable" with the remark that they are overwritten. How could these files have been overwritten in the first place?
BY the way, out of curiosity, on what principle does the software access the files when the file system is not visible on the PC?
Previous to recovery, you could have set the options in recuva to restore folder location, after recovery not so much.
Windows fills free space, free space is created by deleting files, thus files that are overwritten have had other files put in their place(s) on the drive.
If the file system (the drive actually) is not accessible/recognized by Windows recuva cannot be run on the drive.

i do not find any "options" of the type you suggest in recuva.
the only options are to mark the types of files to be recovered. i checked "other" meaning all types of files. there is no option to scan for "folder location".
