should i get rid of norton firewall?

Is Zonealarm a much better program than norton?

i personnally wouldnt touch norton with your bargepole let alone mine

Any application of Norton = Resource hog.

use Outpost Firewall which does not hog resources and gives good protection.

both zonealarm and norton are bloated... but the recent zonealarm paid version provide extra layer of protection and zonealarm GUI is much cleaner than norton... but overall both are good programs...

My advice to anyone that is considering buying a software firewall is to instead buy a router. These will not hog resources and are more secure than a software firewall(they cant be disabled).

If its a matter of cost remember that a firewall program costs about $30 every year. A router has a one time fee of anywhere from $40-$80. I have a linksys router and have decided to see if I really feel secure without ZA. I have tested it on every firewall test site I can find and it passes with the highest levels of security.

Lastly if anyone ones to test there firewall I highly recommend the test on this site:

i agree i just ran that shields up and according to that it doesnt even know if my computer exists. i use a wireless netgear router, one that mrg recommended to me, and its great

I did a test, I'm 100% fine, nothing got through, only thing that was picked up was my IP, but I'm not going to get a proxy or disguise it as some web sites that are used by users of this PC need the genuine IP to be running when on a site. So I'm pleased.

As oli said. :)

Symantec/Norton wouldnt even touch that. :P
