I am trying to recover deleted photos from SD card (guess about 50, 200 MB).
Shortly after " calculating time remaining " bar is displayed, I get the message "The semaphore timeout period has expired" and the process stops,
Any ideas?

How is the card connected to the computer ?
Windows version may become useful.
Camera and card details could become useful.
I am using windows xp.
Card is 16 GB Sandisk Extreme (45 mb/s) via card reader on PC.
Camera is Cannon EOS 550, but Recuva cannot recognise when card is connected via this.
Hope this helps.
If you are plugging the card straight into the built in card reader, I think that's your problem scoff.
Windows XP won't handle a card of that size, which I'm guessing is an SDHC card?
My daughter and I both use one of these for cards over 4GB, which I think is the biggest XP can handle via the card reader. ...

There are lots of different USB adapters available (including multi card), but this one does for us.
There was supposed to be a "fix" included in SP3, but it doesn't work, and if you have SP3 and go looking for and find this fix, Windows will tell you it's already installed and spit it out.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Dennis.
Actually, we use the USB adapters for all our cards as they perform a zillion times quicker than through a card reader. One of the best few pounds I've spent.
And you're welcome.
