Scary Times

:(

Were living in some scary times my friends.

I'm sure by now everyone has heard about the terrorist car bombs that were supposed to go off in London today. Luckily the police defused them both before they went off. Lets hope we are always so lucky.

Stay safe everyone.

Very scary indeed. Kinda makes you wonder where they will plant their next bombs, cars and otherwise. I hope and pray the next ones (and you know there will be plenty) are quickly defused as well so no one gets hurt. It's a shame to realize what's become of everyday life because of the acts of terrorists. You never know what they will try next. :(

I never understood why terrorist are so against the western world, and want to hurt the people that live there. We don't flaunt our riches...it's just the work of productive people and creative minds. Maybe, if they put their money towards bettering their own countries, there would be less hate.

Thease may give you some idea why they are "so against the western world" check out Obsession.

"Obsession The Movie", quite a good watch.

Is that guy an expert in bomb making?

The London police who are trained in defusing bombs said that if the bombs had gone off it could have potentially killed more then 1700 people. I think I'm more inclined to believe the police.

Where I got the numbers:

Glasgow airport is shut down due to an attack that happend just a little bit ago. Two men were arrested, but one was taken to the hospital because he was on fire. They drove a Jeep Cherokee, engulfed in flames, into a terminal.

What is wrong with these people?!?!?!

Thanks for the update LuLu , didn't know about this new one.

1,700 people is a lot of sq. feet. Doesn't that seem high to you? You would have to have one hell of a bomb to do that!

Look, if each person was standing directly next to each other, each person taking up 1 sq. foot, then we still have 1700 sq. feet of occupied space! A mile is 5280 feet, so we have a third of a sq. mile being occupied here! That's a HUGE bomb! Doesn't that make 1700 deaths seem a *bit* high? Not to mention that most people won't be in such close proximity to each other anyways....

I'm not doubting that there was some sort of danger, and I'm truly glad for the response, but I think this is a instance of things being blown out of proportion. To answer your question, I don't know what level of prowess this guy has when it comes to making bombs, but it appears that he knows enough to tear down the facade that people are making this out to be.

Something you might find really interesting:

The radius of total destruction [of the Hiroshima bombing] was about 1.6 km (1 mile), with resulting fires across 11.4 km? (4.4 square miles).

Now you might reconsider what the NYT wrote.

an explosive mixture of gasoline, nails and gas canisters in a car

I think you need to account for the nails as well.... If 1700 in the club (and surrounding area) there was a potential death toll of 1700,

Other wise yes if well less than 1700 in the area,It may be an overestimate but better to overestimate than under.

Consider the direction of a projectile when it's forced from a single point. It travels in all directions from the source. Not only would the immediate area absorb most of the damage, there would be a large amount of nails per person. Have you ever made a DRANO bomb? Or in chemistry class, dealt with an exothermic reaction? Also it wasn't a single building, it was a car parked in a 'nightclub district' where people are behind walls, multiple walls. Gasoline (or petrol, if that's what you call it) doesn't burn quickly enough to do this type of damage.

Let me just reiterate that I'm not trying to make light of a bomb threat. It's horrible and I don't condone it, but this isn't the same magnitude as what we're perceiving it to be.

Quote Rridgely: Stay safe everyone.

Thanks, Rridgely, best advice of all.

Pray for the innocents, who's only role in this fight is to get hurt.

but this isn't the same magnitude as what we're perceiving it to be.

If I had any confidence you knew exactly what the bombs were made of, and how they were made, I might believe you. Right now no-one but the police officers in charge knows.

We can I think, thank our lucky stars the terrorists seem to be incompentent and really rather stupid when it comes to making bombs and ramming doorways..that and a good deal of luck saved many lives...

I gave you as best as I could some sort of empirical data to back my claim up; it's true though that it's only speculation. If that didn't convince you then my only other observation is that you might be too confident in where you get your information from. But hey if you're happy I guess that's all that matters...
