?,s on Avast scanners

Allrighty then,Krit86lr & All .

I ran the memory test ( around 150 passes or so. then rebooted & did the more complex one. ( For lack of a better word ) total around 5 hours. with both. NO errors found. Do I need to do it for the full 8 hours?( cuz i sit here babysitting thru the whole test) . Just so I could see what it did , Or found.

Anyway, once again I,m lost. what else could it be ? other than doing the clean install. ( which I,m holding off on,) till I get something other than Netzero. Because I want NO trace of it on the puter ,if I have to go thru all the windows updates again. Thanks for your help once again. Cowboy

Good! Just put the floppy in, then double-click the .exe file that you downloaded. It will create your floppy for you! :)

Yup! And since the computer is freezing so much it may be a good idea to start the memory test just before you go to bed and let it run all night long. One thing in the Microsoft Memory Diagnostic Test is to enable the Full/Thorough method (don't remember the actual wording) that way it can do a more thorough test of your system RAM.

It also wouldn't hurt to do a secondary RAM test using Memtest86+ (freeware), which I don't know if it's any better than the one from Microsoft although it is typically highly recommended on various forums for testing RAM. It also wouldn't hurt to download and run HD Tune (freeware) to test the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disks - this has been recommended on here before by DJLizard the author of Dial-a-fix.

Then again random crashing can also be because of loose cables or loose components inside your PC case! A few years ago when my old Win98 computer crashed every few minutes and was causing file corruption galore I was told on the Hydrogenaudio.org forums by CiTay to unplug everything inside the PC case, and to then plug it back in - and sure enough it stopped the crashing and file corruption.

Edit:

If you do open your PC case please be safe by doing things in this order before poking around inside it:

  1. Unplug your PC from the wall outlet.

  2. Press and hold for at least 10 seconds the PC's Power On button, this will drain out any remaining electricity inside the components which could still electrocute you if not drained first.

  3. With the PC case off ground yourself, if you don't have a grounding kit typically touching the metal chassis inside the PC case is enough to stop static discharges when you touch the components. Static discharges can damage the components hence the reason to ground yourself.

OK , Andavari, I know Youre more familiar with My problem then most. & thanks for all of your help & suggestions. But, I have done everything Everyone has suggested. ran every test I can think of. & nothing shows any hardware problems, virus, spyware or anything else.

This puter is about a year or 2 old. The only reason I had a problem to begin with, was The Guy put a pirated copy of windows XP Pro, on it. I never hada freeze. & only had virus or spyware problems. at the begining because I . was EVEN dumber than I am now. & purchased No-Adware, online. which was full of trojans , dialers, & spyware.

Thanks to Andy Manchesta, I was able to resolve those problems. THEN. I tryed to do windows updates, & within a matter of a few hours I got the blue screen of death. & was perty much called a liar, when I explained what caused it. ( Thanks Tarun & Bill Gates, AKA , windows genuine authentication update. ) I then bought windows home XP, SP2, Did a clean install, then put my netzero disk in so I could update windows, & have had freezing problems ever since.

I have disabled net zeros turbocache. & found a way to block there ads, that constantly disconneceted Me when They wanted to force feed them to Me.

Then They called Me at home , computer generated ads to do this or that.

I have since changed My phone #, & now receive 2 or 3 emails daily from them , ( early morning only ) which I never open just delete.

This starts the crashes. Mostley if I do anything with My mail.

Like when I get a ccleaner notifacation, someone responded, I click to open that & instant freeze.

So I guess My point is Why everybody is discounting the fact, THIS could be My ONLY problem.

I know it sucks, but at this point I have no other options but net *****************.

I,m sorry I,m rambling, venting or whatever. but It really sucks when Your paying 14.95 a month for the worse virus & spyware. I couldn,t catch on purpose if I wanted to.

Anyway, I appologise thanks for letting Me vent, & hopefully this piece of chit will crash before I get this sent. Thanks to all for Your help. Sincerely Cowboy.

You aren't the only one who feels like this about netzero Cowboy, or gets kicked off or freezes

Keep smiling Cowboy

If NetZero is the cause I'd personally check out PeoplePC, or Netscape. Both are around the same price as NetZero depending upon how many gimmicky features you get.

From my previous experiences with NetZero I would never use it again!

I used to personally use Netscape Internet Service before I got DSL and didn't ever have one problem with it - but then again I didn't use their software either after I grabbed the dial-up numbers from it and then uninstalled it, and then used good ole' Microsoft Dial-Up Networking which is built into Windows to connect to the Internet.

I would be concerned that you think you should have 512mB, yet 222 is indicated.

This is still a concern, but I don't know where Tarq57 got this information either.

As for NetZero, that very well may be your freezing problem. Will you be switched soon?

Hey All. its been a rough morning, going on My 30th crash in 8 hours. netzeros bombarding with movie type adds everytime I try to connect. Yes Krit86lr. I signed up for cpu-net. this morning. its supposed to be much faster & a very small download, After I paid for it online. the puter crashed before I could download it. so here I am again. But at least They have free tech advise & hopefully will send what I need to My email. I,ll let Ya,ll know. & thanks hazelnut, very nice read. makes me feel much better to know I,m not crazy, alsi it linked Me to where I could see what was much better. thanks to all. & Andavari Quit Yer wining. hehe We had thunder snow yesterday. 3 inches per hour, 50 mph north winds, with thunder & lightning. Welcome to Kansas. Lol. Have a good day Ya,ll. Cowboy

This is still a concern, but I don't know where Tarq57 got this information either.

It was in post #11

Ok, once again thanks to all. But , once again I,m going to consider this particular problem resolved. & I will start a new topic in the lounge area. if thats OK. It appears to be fixed.

But I,m really going to need some help setting up new Email, & figuring away to make things seem more normal to Me. I got tech support from cpu-net, & They showed Me how to set up a network, with NO software. Like You said before Andavari. Plus i was able to run HD Tune.& No problems. Thankyou.

& iffen it wasn,t for Hazelnut, s links I wouldn,t have found the new provider I have, Thankyou so Much.

You All have been very helpfull & I cant tell You how much I appreaciate it, krit86lr,Tarq57,rigeley, Res45, Mike, woody, Glenn, & Andy. & . Oh yea. MR,G, Djlizard, & even My ole buddy Tarun, I know i left alot out & didn,t spell some right. But The thoughts there.

& happy holidays to all, where ever You are.

Sorry to drag it out again. And if all goes well i,ll ask some REALLY stupid questions in the next day or so. As far as netzero, I,ll try not to go there. but it kinda made Me miss, spy sherriff & all the other nice programs that got fed to a lot of US . & it,s only $14.95 a month. EEEERRRRRRR!!!. Have a great evening or day. Cowboy

Thanks for the thanks. Really appreciate that, even if I didn't do that much.
