running a second time

After running the registry cleaner and cleaning the results I run it a second time it and finds many additional entries, I clean them and re-run a third time and it does the same....but never more than 3 times.

Is this normal or have I missed something ?

Thanks

Hi david, and welcome to Piriform.

That's quite normal for any registry cleaner.

I suppose you could put it down to the registry being in a constant state of flux, and you will also get entries popping up for something you uninstalled months ago, when you thought you'd cleaned all traces of it. All pretty normal.

Hope that helps.

I've encountered similar behaviour using Tune Up Utilities' registry cleaner so I don't think it's that unusual.

Registry errors are usually detected because a key refers to another key that's missing, points to invalid data or missing files.

The system registry depending where you look can be quite a labyrinth that is registry keys points to other keys that again points more keys.

So what I suspect CCleaner is doing is finding invalid keys and removing them but in doing so invalidates more registry keys which are detected on a re-run.
