Restoring Backup

Hello.

Background:

Some time back I did a lot of cleanup of a packed primary drive. I stored all of the data onto a larger drive, and didn't notice any problems until later. Now one of my favorite programs (GoBinder) and Ink Crossword both give a "Common Language Runtime Debugging Services" error. I have tried unin/reinstalling .NET, have tried putting back some of the removed files, and

To The Point:

the last thing I can think of is to restore a CCleaner Reg-cleanup. But if I either double-click or highlight and select "MERGE", I get a Registry Editor error--"Cannot import (file): Error accessing the registry"

Partial solution:

Googling said that I need to put this file in with whatever .bat file is associated with it...but I have no idea where that is. I tried copying the files to the CCleaner directory and to My Documents, but neither has worked. Ideas?

Thank you very much for your time and help!

Thank you. I'm sorry that I had not found this before. But it ended up not working. The association with the registry was always good--I would get the query whether I was sure I wanted to put this data back into the registry...but then and now I get the follow up message: "Error accessing the registry". Any further thoughts.

If you're on Windows XP this "may" help, then again it may not.

  1. Open the backup .reg file in Notepad, if the first line reads as: REGEDIT4
  2. Change it to: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
  3. Then try to import it again by double clicking it.
  4. If it still doesn't work click: Start->Run->type in: RegEdit
  5. In Registry Editor click: File->Import->browse to the backup .reg file.
