My wife's computer recently came up with a registry error c0000218. I always back up the registry but could not get into it while installed in her computer so I got an enclosure to access the files. I have access to the files but when I start the merge I am unsure if it is going to put the files in my registry or hers. I tried checking by opening some programs that we share and it always opens on mine, I guess since the installation references drive c:. How can I make sure to move the files to what is now drive g:?
If you are running Windows, then a registry merge will put the data into the active (your) registry.
Not sure if there is any way to merge a .reg file into a registry that is not active.
I REALLY need to do this "merge" thing you all talk about... it sounds lovely..... but double or right clicking does nothing..... HELP!
Susan: are you having a similar problem?
I REALLY need to do this "merge" thing you all talk about... it sounds lovely..... but double or right clicking does nothing..... HELP!
go to your startmenu's run box type regedit.exe, if prompted for admin privileges, click yes/ok
a program will open,
go to the file menu and choose import
choose the saved registry file ccleaner made
note this may/may-not fix the issue you have

Yes I'm having the same problem....
But it's odd.... now it seems to be fine and I'm not sure if I should restore.... *so frustrating*
But I would like to know why everyone else seems to have this easy "merge" ability.
@ Nergal.... ur sure that won't make anything worse?
hi Susan, every registry is its own beast but usually (99.99% estimate) it will not cause harm. My description is the work around for if right click merge doesn't import.
the reason it won't merge could be a number of things
1) you cleaned too much at once (see my signature)
2) something removed has already been replaced by windows
3) something removed is protected by windows
4) your daily user account does not have reg edit permissions (my steps should conquer this one)
5) any multitude of things I've not thought of this early in my day
